Red, they just do what they want to do. I really don't do much besides, water, fertilizer, and staking. And, look for spikes every day of the year.

Yes, I know they only bloom in the summer.

I learned from my sensei who has been growing them for a longer time than I have. Satomi is a great resource as well. I also have a book on 315 different varieties.

Yes, this does happen often. Sometimes you can have spikes emerge on one node and another on the node above simultaneously too.

You can make them from plant wire or use bamboo skewers that I cut to size. My Neo guru, Chieko-sensei, gave me some cool clear plastic skewers meant to train Neos.

Satomi said she uses small bamboo skewers to train the leaves.

Unfortunately, the book is in Japanese. I also have some Japanese orchid journals with fuukiran info. I can not read any of them but my father can read Kanji and has translated some of the info for me.

Aside from those, I just have the Seed Engei catalog (in English) and of course, my first piece of fuukiran literature, the OD article, given to me by my sensei. Ginger, every fuukiran fan needs a new sensei, one that you visit and harrass on a regular basis

Speaking of books, I'm told that Carol Beule is helping Satomi put together a book in english ALL ABOUT FUKIRAN! Hopefully for introduction at the next WOC!
