Too bad you don't live in the U.S. Otherwise, I would ask if you were interested in possbily trading divisions with me. So are you planning on trying these guys out in S/H too or is it just that one neo you have in S/H? I think you said you got these from Satomi, right? Or was it Glenn at NWO? |
Very cool! I love the crazy Neo roots - they seem to be the only orchids I have that aerial roots do just fine in the dry summers here.

Thanks for the clarification Bud, no hard feelings ;)

Very nice!!! I love the tsuke on your Seikai group.
I managed to pick up a beautiful Houmeiden from Satomi and her father at the Longwood Gardens show last month. It has really nice ruby roots and white variegation. Cheers. Jim |
Thank you Jim,
Yes the Seikai group have very nice wavy tsuke, and on the Oonami-seikai it is very contrasted, I love it too! Satomi has very nice plants and reasonable plants (I suppose they are clones as opposed to divisions, but I don't care). I got a small Houmeiden too from her couple of months ago, but it is still in dormancy, haven't seen those beautiful roots yet! |
A few more are taking off

is "tsuke" the abscission zone at the base of the leaf?
|
Yes it is.
There are 4 types of tsuke: 1. Tsukigata - The common crescent shape 2. Yamagata - Mountain type 3. Namigata - Ocean wave 4. Ichimonsigata - straight Cheers. Jim |
Jim,
As I was doing some research on Neofinatia, I came across this website (in japanese). In the right column on the main page, second paragraph down, they have links to lists of Neofinetia (huge lists!!!) with description of all characteristics, including tsuke, leaf shape, root color, flowers, etc. It is hard for me to understand everything from the google translation as I don't speak a single word of Japanese :( I could find mention of at least 6 kinds of tsuke, but I never heared of the 2 last ones 山 or 山形 Mountain 波 Wave 月 Crescent 一文字 Straight 低い山 Low hill 浅い月 Shallow moon there is also this one previously mentioned in one thread on the OB: 弓形 - Yumigata - Bow Shaped I think the bow shape could be the same as the low hill... as i would be a little bump on an otherwise straight line |
