Default 1st American Fukiran Society judging

For the neo fans....

If you did not hear about this yet, here are some photos from Peter Lin's flickr page.

Last weekend, the first Neofinetia judging (traditional Japanese style) was held in Santa Barbara, CA. I think the top 5 received Raku pots or plaques from the Japan Fukiran Society.

Hi Tracy,
I know I have not been around for a while.
The pictures are fantastic, thank you.

I was wondering how you become a member of the American Fukiran Society?

Mike

sorry I missed it. If you have information on joining the Fukiran Society, please post it.

I have a couple of neos in spike right now. Shunkyuden should bloom soon.

Thank you Tracy! I heard about it, can't remember from where though. It sure would be neat to go to something like that someday! And of course the one I like the most was the one made of gold...lol. They were all really beautiful though. Thank you so much for sharing the link with us! Also, I can only hope my Hokage will be as beautiful as the one in the pictures someday. I have a seedling and it has a long ways to go...it is so itty bitty tiny!

Nice pics. Wish I could have been there.

I'm with Mike and Kip, how do I join, or do we need to create it in the first place?

As a founding member of the North American Cryptocoryne Society, we just modeled ourselves after the existing European Crypt. Society; had our first physical meeting as a side meeting at the Aquatic Gardeners convention; and "meet" through a Crypt. forum on Aquatic Plant Central, just as we do with the Neo. forum here on OB.

No bylaws, or board of directors at the moment, just a formalization of a group of people with a similar interest.

It certainly is do-able. Possibly hold a first physical meeting in Minnesota or Michigan in a year or 2? Visit Glenn or Jason?

Cheers.
Jim

Why not ask how to join through a comment on one of the flickr pics. Likely that the pics were posted by a member or are checked by one.

Hey Mike and Kip! Haven't seen you both here in a while.

Kip, post a photo of your Shunkyuden if you have time. Mine had more flowers this year but the blooms suffered some insect damage. Disappointing...

Oh that's right! I forgot you won that little Hokage on ebay? Now that you've seen it's potential, aren't you glad you got it?

I think, right now the only members are the 2 judges, who would be organizing the society. Katie (neokate) had mentioned that Satomi wanted to start an American neo society and Jason had every intention to do so a while ago but life and slipper lectures got in the way. Jim, what you're describing is definitley do-able. I don't know how 'official' the society is right now. It's probably just 2 members, our 2 judges?? I'm guessing things will start out in CA, where most of the neo fans are, it seems, then branch out. I'll email a few people and see if I can get any info and I'll PM you guys or post it here.

Yes, Tracy. Please keep us posted.

If they are guaging interest, I would definately join and would be willing to pay dues, even if I never made a meeting.

Cheers.
