Has anyone heard of or seen this orchid. I bought one at the WOC in Fl, it's in bloom now and looks just great but I can't find it anywhere. Here's a pic of it a few days ago it's now open all the way, thanks..... Jim.

Have not heard of it but from the name, it should have the shima (distinct bands/ stripes) variegation. I can't tell if your plant is variegated from the picture but the blooms are very nice. Good growing!
Tokunoshima (徳之島) is the name of the island it comes from. in this case, shima means "island"(島), not stripes/silk threads(縞).
Tokunoshima is one of the Amami islands, and neos from there are commonly sold as Amami island furan. yours is a very nice specimen.
When I first read I asked my wife for the meaning and she said the same as Kip. Mind you not that I doubted Kip but my wife is Japanese so I thought I would ask. Anyway, it's a beautiful Neo. pot and all!
