Default Standard neo

This is the only neo I have - it's a standard variety so not as fancy as some of those awesome ones you guys have! Something strange is happening with some of the fans - the newest leaf has turned brown. This has happened before, and the fan eventually recovers and continues on it's way - I suspect maybe it's because I sometimes forget to water this guy for extended periods of time. I sure feel lucky it still decided to bloom for me! Smells awesome although a little over powering when up close.

I'm not sure what's causing the top leaves to turn brown, on mine it's the oldest leaves that turn brown and fall off. It looks like a fairly healthy plant, and very nice flowers. Thanks for sharing the pictures with us

How are you watering this plant? Is water getting in between the leaf axils? That's the only thing I can think of that causes this problem.

When it's been subjected to really bright light in warm temps and not getting enough water while it's in the growing phase, this seems to happen. Once it happens, it keeps doing this for a while. A stressed neo takes several years to fully recover. I do have a Neo 'Ushiwakamaru' this happened to and it's still blooming and growing new fans. Roots look perfectly fine when I unpotted it. I wouldn't worry, these are really hard to kill. Looks like a good size plant, you must've had it for a while. It's pretty, Calvin.

Are you growing it in a terrarium? I vaguely remember someone posting about the same problem back in the fall or last spring. The Neo was in a terrarium and the new leaves kept dying like that because probably too much moisture gets in the crown.
Or when you do water, some stays in the crown, causing the rot.

Thanks for all the feedback. Water never gets into the crown because I soak rather than water from above. However, I do have it in an area with relatively bright light, and it does accidently get left dry sometimes! It's potted in a poor imitation of the japanese style - I suppose letting the sphag get crispy is a nono!

I've had this guy for about 3 years now!
