Question about Nisidemiyako

Hi everyone,

I have gone to Pacific Orchid Exp in San Francisco few weeks ago, and I purchased some neos from Satomi. I found that the white color of Nisidemiyako turned to purple. Is it something wrong with it? I have no idea what happen to it...please help!!!

Nishidemiyako tends to be a bit more sensitive to higher light than some of the other variegated ones. Therefore, it gets purple rather easily in response to higher light. Since the variegation on this one is more cream to creamy yellow, your new leaves should come out fine as long as you keep it at this light level as it will adjust to the higher light. If you get any neos with the pure white variegation, especially where the white part is much thinner than the rest of the leaf, it will turn very purple and singe in no time. With the pure white variegated ones, you pretty much have to grow in lower light to keep it "clean and unblemished" looking.

Thank you for you response!! LinhT I should put it under low light from now on and hope it can be fine with no marks anymore....I'm a newbie to neo, I just thought it's good to have purple on leaf...lol

Kate, I don't think you need to grow this one in low light. It's only the VERY VERY white ones that burn easily in higher light. This one is more cream and can take medium light. Just gradually increase your light levels and your new leaves should come out clean. If you keep it in too low light levels, it might not bloom.

I have it, and in my experience it needs rather high light to keep variegation. My recent leaves were much greener than the old ones. Now that I moved it to the higher light, it turned purple, but the new leaf is nicely variegated once again. We'll see if it is also more resistance to getting purple.
