Hi. I wanted to know what kind of conditions you are growing your little ascofinetia in. I am interested in trying some of the little guys and want to make sure I have the means to support them. Temp's? Light? Watering habbits? Needs to bloom?

Thanks!

Hi,
I keep this in a SouthEast window, lots of light/sun and very cool throughout the winter. It's in coconut fibers and CHC, and I spray it down each a.m. and give it a good drench each Sun. a.m.
I use Peters 20-20-20 fert. 1/4 teas. to gal.
It's been no trouble at all and the blooms lasted 6 weeks.

I'm looking for the orange one now.

Hope this helps,
Al

Hello. Wonderful that you replied so quickly! I have a southeast window spot! Now I have a couple of more questions if you don't mind.

Do you allow the sun to hit your neofinetia directly or no? If he is inside how do you get him to get to a cool temp. in the winter? How cool does he get and for how long? Does he spike once a year at the same time of year each year, when? Also, I'm sorry, but what is CHC (coconut husk chips??)? Thanks! I am also loving and hoping to find one in an orange color!

Thanks again and my very best!

Yes, the sun hits the plant directly from different angles as it moves across the sky.
Being next to a window it gets quite cool, i.e., if it's minus 30F outside it must get to the low 50's on the inside.
It's supposed to be a twice a year bloomer, I haven't had this one long enough to answer your question.
Yes, CHC is coconut husk chips..

Very nice indeed. I have my first neo. and looking forward to it's first blooms. Love that pot too! Maybe the next time you re-pot you place the plant higher in the pot higher like they do other Neofinetia Falcata. Thanks for sharing.

Al & Pixiestar

Last fall these yellow ones were listed at these places.

'Twinkle' at Fantasy Orchids and Housermanns. At that time they were $20.00

I bought 'Lionstar' from Cal Orchids, It is supposed to be a deeper color than 'Twinkle'. This one was a bit more expensive but also was a larger plant.

Hope this helps. Marilyn
