Default Neo. falcata 'Leesburg'

Good morning all.

I almost bought my first Neo. last Saturday. I was down in Sterling, VA for my monthly GWAPA meeting and decided in check out Al's Orchid Greenhouse over in Leesburg.

He had some plants of his own breeding, Neo. falcata 'Leesburg' that looked very interesting. They are an Amami Island type with some light pink in the spur. Unfortunately, he was reluctant to sell any as they were recovering from a greenhouse fire earlier this year.

There's a pic of the mother plant before the fire at this link.

Cheers.

This is a big one, Jim. The wife would definitely see it. If you go for one of the minis she might miss it amongst all the other orchids.

LOL!! LinhT, you are too funny!! But also too right! Jim, you'd never be able to hide this baby!!

Jim, that is am impressive plant. I have an Amami Island type that (fingers crossed! ) will have some pink in the flower. Just waiting for it to open - should be soon, and I'll be sure to post photos. The spikes are very red, so that is a good sign.

You guys are too funny! Hi Hun! Is that an 8-inch orchid basket in your pocket or are you glad to see me?

I actually did smuggle a Schoenorchis fragrans in while distrating her with a pair of dwarf crayfish, Cambarellus shufeldtii. It's hanging on the side of an S/H Paph. container in my bathroom window.

Well I broke down and bought a Neo. 'Leesburg' yesterday.

I was in Leesburg, VA and a Cryptocoryne/orchid friend of mine and I made a quick trip over to Al's orchid greenhouse to see what he had.

I got the Neo. in a 4 inch plastic vanda basket with 4 new growths starting for about $20. I got off easy; could have gone crazy with the Bulbo's and other miniatures he just got in.

Cheers.

I KNEW you would go back and get it!! Sometimes you can't resist. The 4 inch pot should be easy to sneak into the house.

I'm good at sneaking the minis (and not so minis) past my mom when I'm living at home. The only problem was that one day she ventured into my grow area and commented that it was very strange that although I was getting no more orchids, I had an entire new shelf full of them.... She caught me!! But hey, I did manage to double the collection without anyone noticing!

Oh no, I'm still working on that too. Thankfully they're a small species.

Cheers.
