The proper tree fern to use in what I recommend is NOT soft tree fern from New Zealand but the hard wiry brittle kind from South and Central America.

I use this for some plants. Basically if a plant arrives in it I let it stay in it.

It is very good for mounted plants, but once the roots have grown into it, they are very difficult to remove for a replant.
