Neofinetia Shigyoku is a bean leaf Neofinetia with sumi without associated anthocyanin. The blemishes are characteristic of the variety and add interest to the overall appearance. I suspect that the blemishes are somehow associated with the sumi, somewhat similar to the corky lines on some other sumi varieties.

Strangely, Shigyoku is a mutation of Neof. Ootakamaru, a more normal looking Neofinetia.

Shigyoku was recently found. I don't know whether it was an offshoot or a member of seedling population of a selfing or sib crossing.

Last picture was taken by Barampung with a good camera and light set up, the first 2 pictures by me after I received it and potted up the plant which of course was sent bare root. My camera is pretty poor and light set up non existent.

Neofinetia Shigyoku Male
Default

It's a seedling mutation of a selfing of Otakamaru. It was registered in Japan in 2004.

Regarding the size, the more sumi a growth has, the smaller the growth will be. In growths with minimal sumi, the shape is more akin to a standard otakamaru. That goes for most sumi varieties as well.
