What to do with this seedling Female
Default What to do with this seedling

I have a new V. Pachara Delight in a 2-3" netted plastic pot. I do have a 6"wooden square basket ready for a future move. I am new to Vanda's, so my question is..when do I transfer to the wooden basket and do I take it out of the plastic netted basket by cutting it or just leave as is?
Thanks in advance.
Sorry the pics are sideways..?

Vandas don't mind being confined in small pots. Their roots like hanging anyway. It will take years for it to grow into a 6 inch basket. Where are you growing this? Vandas require intense light and high humidity (over 50%) to thrive. Many people grow their vandas in glass containers with some water. Maybe they'll chirp in.

It will be fine in that basket for a long time. When it is time to move up, leave it in that basket, and thread the dangling roots through the slats of the new basket.

Read about Vandas here on Orchid Board. There is a Vanda forum you can access from the left menu, Forums.

When grown in baskets or bare-root they need watering every day. Lower humidity than ideal is tolerated if they are very well watered. In your climate they will need as much light as possible through the winter. They probably will like full summer sun if you adapt them to it gradually, and there is good air circulation to keep the leaves at ambient temperature.

I've been reading all I can about Vanda. There has been new roots and a new set of leaves since I've gotten it. I do soak daily. I also bought a second one that came in a basket with a stake in the center. It seems to be doing well also with some new leaf and root growth. Thank you for info. I'll leave the little one in the basket for a while.
