Anyone Growing Aerangis curnowiana?
Default Anyone Growing Aerangis curnowiana?

Hi y'all,

I've been reading the book "Miniature Orchids" by Peter Frownie and he lists Aerangis curnowiana as being fragrant and miniature in one of the lists in the back of the book, but when I looked for a profile on the plant, none was to be found. So I went on the internet, and WOW this is SUCH a beautiful plant! No one seems to be growing it though? I only found a few forums mentioning it at all...and IOSPE doesn't say it's fragrant.

IOSPE is a great source but I have found a few things to be fragrant that are not listed as fragrant there.

No, I have not grown this one. Someone seems to be rebuilding the Angraecum Encyclopedia which is great news. I used it as my guide years ago and then the site went down. It looks like they are starting to include much of the information that once could be found on the old site.
You can use the elevations to look up yearly temperatures and rainfall in Madagascar (or, if African, that part of Africa) which is very useful information. If it grows in Madagascar, it will like good airflow both to the plant and roots as Madagascar is breezy. That is why Angraecums tend to be more prone to fungus attacks. I try to add extra Calcium for these guys.

Good luck!

I flowered an Aerangis punctata which is very similar to curnowiana. I was never able to smell anything on it but it changes between individual plants and growing conditions

I'm growing punctata and curnowiana. Never detected any fragrance w/ punctata, but the buds and blooms are entrancing enough without it.
Have only had curnowiana for a couple of months, no blooms yet.
Louisiana Orchid Connection may still have curnowiana available.... took a look just now and they are listed on the website. Great price, in my opinion, and John has always been great to deal with.
