Nice flowering. I was going to ask about the culture......but it looks like you are simply growing it beside your kitchen window, sink area! Regular dunk to water it. I think this will have to go on my list.

Yes, Dave, I have this hanging on the side of my kitchen cabinet, over the sink. It's in a south-facing window, but that part of the house is shielded by the detached garage, and the window only gets bright indirect light most of the day.

I water only when the sphagnum pad gets crispy dry, by running the mount and all aerial roots under the tap (lukewarm water) until the sphagnum is soft and the roots are green. I have good-quality city water.

Temperatures in my house range from a high of around 95 in the height of summer afternoons (unless I cave and turn on the AC), to a low of 59 at night in winter. I keep my house pretty cold in winter because I'm a cheapskate.

Non-ideal conditions are probably why it took more than five years to bloom...

Just a update to close the loop on this plant's blooming... Today the final flowers faded and I cut off the spike.

The first bloom opened on Oct. 1, and the last one faded on Oct. 28. I had a full four weeks of bloom from this spike!

No, the plant is mounted on a cedar shingle with a bit of sphagnum moss. This is the way it came to me five years ago and I haven't messed with it.

The mount hangs from a bracket attached to the side of the cabinet. It's about 4" off the cabinet.
