I just purchased one from a discount shelf at our botanical gardens for $3.50. It's in sad shape though. It only has 3 full leaves left (3 or 4 were dead already), the leaves are wrinkled/leathery, appears to have suffered some root loss, but I took it because there appeared to be some new roots.

So what kind of humidity are you giving this guy?

I'm assuming that putting it in a terrarium under about 3000fc's or so would work wonders on it. The terrarium maintains between 80 to 90 percent humidity.

I've also read that they don't necessarily like to completely dry out, is that correct? I'm asking because I was intending on mounting it once it started healing a bit with just a little padding of sphag moss around the root base. In the terrarium, a little sphag almost completely dries out by the end of the day.

Oh, and sorry to have hijacked your thread! Since you seem to be having success with this little guy, thought I'd ask what your thoughts and experiences were.

Paul, I wouldnt give it too much light till you have it growing well. The extra light is for flowering purposes, not getting a plant growing if sick. The culture your considering seems ok though I have never grown in a terr'. The moisture level is what I do, it may not be usable in your case, can't help there, sorry. Once the plant has regained health, mounting it probably be ok.

My growing conditions are quite dry. That's why I grow all my angraecoids in terrariums. When I got mine, it was a small seedling, and was bare root. I put it in a net pot, anchored in leca balls. I don't let it go completely dry. In the year that I've had it, it has tripled in size and there are roots everywhere. Now that the growing season nears its end, I'll cut back on watering and fertilizing, but I'll keep the air humidity at about 70-80%. Hope this helps.
