I'm more convinced than ever, now, that Angraecum didieri can be best grown under very high humidity and high light. This little guy (that's a 7cm X 7cm pot) has opened it's second blossom since I moved it to the tank in March of 2008. First blooming (May 14, 2008):
Second blooming this morning (July 27):
There is a new "nubbin" appearing down near top of medium from one of the side shoots. If this is a third flower, I wonder how it will develop? There's literally very small space available with all those roots and leaves.
Looks great! I want to get one now and try it. How high light do you have and what are your humidity levels? Also, how did you stick on the coco panels onto the sides of your tank?
Light runs 18,000-20,000 lux. I used clear silicone adhesive (the smelly stuff). I set the tank on its back, spread out the cocoa mat on the silicone, then weighted it down with boards and paint cans till it was set up (24 hours.) I vented it for about 7 days to clear out the smell before setting up the tank. It has held up for nearly two years so far. Humidity runs from approx 90% at top under lights to 99% near bottom.
I like it Ross, but what wierd roots it has. It reminds me of an elephants trunk with all the wrinkles.........it also makes me think of an OLD womans upper arms. Not mine though, I'm not that old.
Seeing that I'm possibly the oldest woman on the forum I can get away with saying that.
Would that plant do well with only about 60% humidity.
You win yet again Ross, Ok, I have mine in high light and humidity in a tank. The difference is mine is not potted, but mounted. How much fert do you give it?
Tindo, don't think mounting should be any problem. Mine is overgrowing the pot and mounting may be in its future. I fertilize every other day with the MSU mix. I used to dunk things, but quit doing that because of spreading bugs. I now soak the pot using a hand sprayer till water flows out the bottom. It dries out between times. Temps are running mid 80s during day and low 70s at night. Humidity at 90% 24/7. It's out of the direct air from the fan. Hope this helps.
