Angraecum sesquipedale var augustifolium
Default Angraecum sesquipedale var augustifolium

I got this in October 2020 from High Desert Orchids which is no longer in business. The evening fragrance reminds me of night blooming jasmine with a hint of chlorine.

Lovely! Is it a first bloom? If so, worth the wait!

I'm curious what the distinction is for this variety over the type.

Thank you. Yes, first time bloomer. I don’t think it liked led lights.

I read that the variety augustifolium/bosseri is more compact, narrower leaves, and the flowers are limited to 2 per inflorescence and they are smaller in size than the regular sesquipedale. They also come from different biomes.

It's quite an attractive bloom. Maybe I'll have to try this variety. My standard variety (not sure if it has a more appropriate designation than that) has blooms that smell like some sort of medicinal skin care cream. It's not really that attractive of a scent. Do you grow any other of the larger angraecoids too? If you don't, try to find a plant of Angraecum eburneum or superbum. They like the same conditions as your sesquipedale, and the blooms smell pretty phenomenal. Congratulations on your flowering.
