Angraecum bosseri spike issue
Default Angraecum bosseri spike issue

Hello,

This is the second year my Angraecum bosseri has spiked and yellowed prematurely. Last year I had it outside in 50-70oF with rain, this year I had it indoors 65-70 oF and 60% humidity.

Not sure what it needs... I would appreciate any advice! Thanks.

Maybe keep it a little warmer? Both my Angraecum superbum and sesquipedale have shown their displeasure in the past whenever I've allowed the temperatures to fall below 65 F at night--and they seem to thrive with truly warm-to-hot temperatures. Is your plant near the floor vent or close to a window? Perhaps dry air from the furnace, or too-close proximity to a window (where the temps are probably cooler) could be the culprit for the yellowing spike and bud.

Thanks - It's near a window - but I'm pretty limited to what I can do with temperature in my home. The electricity bill in SD is pretty prohibitive. I'll try a heat mat next but I may have to let it go!

Hi Jeff. I grow mine indoors in San Francisco, without any heater or heat mat and next to a window. I find that the roots like it moist, never dry so I have mine in sphagnum moss and some orchiata. I always water when the top moss is approaching dryness. I hope this helps.
