DTB, this is AMAZING!!!

I just found this thread as I was searching for advice on my first orchidarium build. I just ordered the exo terra 36x18x36 inch case and some of the equipment that I plan to use. This thread is a wealth of information.

Could you please answer a few questions that I haven't been able to work out yet?

1. What did you use for "soil"? I'm planning on putting in a false bottom and landscaping fabric. I'm trying to decide on what medium to lay on top of the fabric. I plan on growing moss and some orchids on the floor. I want to use a compatible medium but not something that will decompose and decay. Any suggestions?

2. What have you done for drainage? I'm thinking of drilling a hole in the back or bottom with a tube running to a tank, but am terrified of trying to drill the glass.

3. I would love to achieve a 10 degree F drop in temperature overnight, but that won't happen naturally in my growing area. I have spent days researching ways to cool the enclosure. I want something that doesn't look obvious, e.g., an air conditioner unit sitting next to the tank. I am at a loss.

4. I love your hood and had been thinking of doing something similar. I haven't been able to work out how to mount a hood without blocking the front-opening doors. How is yours mounted?

Thanks for any help you can provide. Your orchidarium is just awesome. I so appreciate your sharing the details with all of us, as well as the gorgeous end result.

Hi there, super huge project congratulations. I am wandering what's the status of this vivarium ??

I am into building a small tank myself and I have one question ; where do you have the fan places for the glasses, I am not able to see it in the pictures.

Thanks,
