Very cool. I'm trying to get info to start growing in a reptile tank that will be empty soon (I hope). This is a good place to start. How much maintenance is this setup? I'll be leaving my 'chids in the care of my mom for at least 2 months. I literally only need to tell her to put water in a reservoir tank for the misting system. The less she has to do, the better off my plants will be. Your plants look very happy and healthy and your tank is really nice looking.
Unfortunately, my tank is not open in the front, since it's basically an aquarium for a reptile.

All I do is add water (distilled or RO) to the tank. I also have a spray bottle filled with highly diluted fertilizer that I spray the plants down once a week.

So, it seems you fill the misting system, let it water the plants on a timer, the excess water drains to the bottom, and periodically you siphon it out?

If this is correct, how often do you have to do the siphoning?

Since it is so dry here I haven't siphon in out in two months. If you are are careful you can drill a hole in the bottom or side of the tank and place a drain there. Make sure you seal the opening around the tube really well and leave it to cure a few days before adding water.

This allows for the water to drain into a bucket or back into your water reservoir. Just make sure that your base materials are washed really well before you do this.
