Are you trying to make a false bottom, where you use egg crate on top of some permanently placed pipes? If so, that is enough.
Just make sure you raise the plastic at least two or three inches from the bottom. Also you will need to find a way to drain all the water that ends up down there, either by drilling a hole into the tank (I don't reccomend it as it might be tempered glass), or by leaving some of the water exposed so you can siphon it out when it reaches too high a level.
With the leca, its the same deal, everything will possible stay even more moist than with a false bottom.
