I spent the last few months or so building this setup. My main goal was to be able to grow some of the cooler growing higher humidity orchids like Masdevallias and Pleurothallis.
There is a Dracula in there too that seems to be on its last leg, probably the water quality, so I installed a RO system to hopefully not let that happen again.
The Pleuros and Masdes seem pretty happy, one bloomed and another is still in bloom.
Eventually I plan to put some poison dart frogs in there but first I want the orchids to anchor themselves a bit.

How big is the system in question and how did you get the little stream running through?
I'm new to this whole idea of growing plants in glass boxes and am considering taking a 7 gallon mini bow I have sitting in my garage, and turning it into terrarium for my mini phals. I figure, it's got a retrofitted fluorescent fixture, it's got glass and it will keep the dogs from chewing on the 'chids and it will help me maintain a bit more humidity for them, so it sounds like a good idea, but I have NO idea where or how to get started so I would love to hear all about your process!

It's a 60gal rimless cube. I took the idea for making the waterfall from someone else on another orchid forum, it's eggcrate under-structure with spray foam that I carved for the shape and then glued rocks into. Then it's a layer of moss over a TON of hydroballs. I kept thinking, oh just one or two more bags...hahaha, I must have twenty bags of hydroballs in there, I lost count.

Sadly the Dracula died  . Andy from Andy's Orchids said that it was probably a water quality issue. I have since gotten an RO system but not soon enough to save the Dracula.
The erinacea is doing the best, blooming pretty steadily. |
