I think they were used just for display and were not grown that way, at least thats how I would use them
you can put the plant in, but how do you take it out? Do you mean that those glass drops are used only for one show and then they break them to take the plant out?
No, I saw them up close and personal at the show. You can easily take the orchids in and out of the drop. The entrance hole is sufficiently large.
