Barbosella Australis

Hi all,

I'm planning to grow Barbosella Australis in a small vivarium. Does anyone has experience on this sp.? What is the growing condition for this small plant?

Hello,

This high elevation Brazilian species, Barbosella australis, grows best in cooler temperatures and ample amounts of water... I never let them dry out between waterings.

Thanks Mahon for your prompt reply.
I knew that this sp does best in cooler temp. However the shop keeper who sold it stated that it can tolerate higher temp. Is this true? I'm living in Hong Kong which during summer time can be extrenmely hot and humid.(30+ degree C = 86+degree F)
I'm planning to instore small CPU fan to the vivarium to increase ventilation. Would that be sufficient to provide a suitable environment for the plant?

Most Barbosella species CAN withstand higher temperatures and little amounts of water, as the leaves are slightly fleshy and succulent. I wouldn't advise keeping it away from water and cool temperatures for long periods of time. If all possible, keep temperatures cooler and high amounts of water. Also, try avoid placing the plant close to the light source, as it may burn it up or fry it...

CPU fan is a big plus in a small, enclosed area...
