Semi-Hydro in an enclosed area

I've been growing orchids in Semi hydro for about 3 years now and for 2 of those years they were grow in a bay window. For the last year however my orchids have been grown for the most part in an "Orchidarium".

I've noticed a few differences between the two growing enviroments.
Both enviroment I use about 1/4 strength furtilizer and KLN root hormone

Orchidarium
Pros:
-Higher humidity levels seems to allow for quicker root growth and make for easy transition to Semi-Hydro
-Easier light level adjustment(raise or lower the orchid within the tank)
-Way better air movement from the circulation fans
-auto misting system
-Wife having her bay window back, makes for happier wife

Cons:
-Watering more frequently due to higher temp and higher air circulation
-Algae growth has increase subtancially, still working on a fix for this
-Pests spread quickly in an enclosed area
-Increased electicity costs

New guy about to go in the tank

I used to work in a lab where we grew rice hydroponically in light chambers. We solved the algae problem by painting the tubs completely black. It kind of sucks not to be able to see the roots, but it gets rid of the algae that can clog the holes in your containers.

I though of something like that Calvin but I was thinking paint only about half so I still could see most of the roots. Or get opaque countainers that are very tight fitting to my grow tub and then I can take the grow tub out to look at roots

Hi I notice that you have s/h planted orchids in your nice designed case. You also mentioned that you also have a misting system. How does that work with the s/h plants?

The misting system goes on 6 times daily for 5-6 seconds. It allows me to have sevral fans going while maintain a descent humitidity range. The extra air circulation does make for quicker evaporation so I have to water more frequently.
