Eeaahhhhh!!! OMG!! That Masdevallia amabilis is gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for introducing it to me!
You live in a very cool area. Is Winchester in Northern Britain?
Our heat waves are not heat waves unless they are in the upper 90's and often into the 100's F, or between 35 and 40 C.

It is beautiful, isn't it? It is top of my 'must add' list - trouble is, I can't decide whether I like the purple form or the white form. The white just looks so pristine!

Nope, I'm not in the North. I'm in the South just above Southampton - maybe 20 miles or so from the coast.

Latitude: 50.8,
Longitude: -1.22.

(Winnipeg is further South than we are here.)

If memory serves me right, the all time record high temperature in England (set in 2003) was 36C in a place just outside of London. Even though it rarely gets 'too' hot here, it also doesn't often get too cold either. We rarely see temperatures where I am drop below freezing for very long. That, combined with all of the moisture we get from the Gulf Stream, is what I think accounts for the Masdies being so happy.

Woe to us if the Gulf Stream shifts, as predicted!

Hope you get your hands on an M. amabilis! do you have room for it in the bottom of your viv?

It is only because of the Gulf Stream that it isn't always very cold.

Oh yes, I am quite aware of the predictions and possible outcomes. Not nice. Lets hope it doesn't happen in my....I mean our lifetimes.
Maybe there will be a little shift performing an autocorrection. Hopefully. Yea right.

I don't have room for that or any Masdie in my viv. I would have to put it all the way at the top which is way too bright and dry. It would not be happy I want one!!!

Not bad in price it seems, to someone who is unware of the exchange rate between Euro's and Dollars.
How about a Platystele stenostycha. I have one and all I do is mist it everyday. It has been in bloom (hundreds of tiny littel yellow flowers) since I recieved it.
