Default Orchid species for small vivarium

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and want to learn more about growing orchid in vivarium. As I know a lot of you are experts on this subject I'm sure I can get some good suggestion here.

I'm planning to set up a small glass vivarium. The size of the viv is 28cm(L) x 30cm(W) x 24cm(H). I want to introduce some very small orchid sp. into it. What species would you recommended and what sort of condition I need to provide in order to keep the plant happy?

Hi Sean,
For the size you are trying I would recommend a Stelis or several Stelis species. These are small plants with very small flowers.

I take the oppotunity to make a question. I'm planning to set-up a terrarium and I would know which kind of miniatures it's possible to grow inside it. Dracula could be one???
Any suggestion to set up myself a terrarium??
Thanks

I would grow Haraella odorata, Masdiavellias, Pluerothatlis, Draculas for cool terrariums or Miniature Catts and Sophoronitis if you want to grow it warm.

I got my first Stelis late last year in full bloom mounted on treefern and I love it! I'm keeping it in a fishtank sitting in a tray of water as that's how the person I got it from was growing it, in fact it even had algae on the bottom of the treefern piece..

It has rebloomed since being in my fishtank so I'd say yeah they are good choice for the viv/terrarium if grown
epiphytically.

Here's a link to a blog entry I made on mine [the site was down and I obviously need to reupload some pics] it's a Stelis porschiana:
