Default Drainage

Hi terrarium growers!

I was wondering how you all deal with drainage and water buildup. I have egg crate lining the bottom of my tank, but with several misting cycles a day, I do get quite a bit of water build up and it's reaching the point where the water level is creeping above the egg crate. It has also grown nasty algae which needs to be removed.

I'm wondering how drainage is setup in all your tanks, and whether you have an automated system for periodically draining the tank (ie some sort of pump system), or whether you do big cleans every few months in which you remove everything and drain the tank. I'd prefer not to have to take everything out of the tank to drain it, but it's a top-opening tank and so it's the only way so far.

The simplest way to deal with drainage issues is to drill holes in the bottom of the tank and install some bulkheads you can connect pipes too. You can get the glass drill bit from Glass-Holes.com dope aquarium stuff : Glass Hole Cutters along with various size bulkheads Glass-Holes.com dope aquarium stuff : Bulkheads It is quite easy to drill glass. There is demonstration movie and instructions on this site too Installation GH It is for drilling an aquarium for a filter box, but it is the same principle. You dont need the wooden template they use in the video either. Just get a ring of plasticine or putty to make a pool of water and drill where you need the holes.
