Default Need some plant guidance

I apparently "inherited" some fungus gnat larvae with a fern placed in my s/h terrarium.

Can someone recommend a good, relatively small carnivorous plant for that environment, and where I might get them?

I had considered a pinguicula, but I understand they need a winter rest, and I don't do that.

I'd suggest either venus flytraps or one of the sundews (round-leaved sundew is native to NE U.S.) I found some venus flytrap at a big box store about a year ago. A google search yielded the following - The Amazing Venus Flytrap Store Hope this helps. Great idea by the way.

I don't do most Dendros or large, "floofy orchids". For me it's minis (like Angraecoides), Paphs, and others that crept in somewhere along the line. See my orchid list for complete collection (usually not current.)

I've seen them at Home Depot in the garden section by the registers.

That may have been where I found mine. They were in 2" pots with covers (mini greenhouse).

I would absolutely recommend the Drosera, or sundews. They are, hands down (vs. pings and VFTs) the best gnat catchers, at least in my house!

I agree on the sundews. I have seen native Drosera here in Florida bogs, and they are more efficient at bug catching then Nepenthes and Sarracenia.

Default Problem with Fungus gnats

I recomend dendrobates azureus, or auratus

Much more effective than any of the earlier methods...

...Except they're not plants.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.

No doubt I can get a fly trap locally, but I'll definitely look for the sundews, as well.

You can get all kinds of Drosera from: Tropical Carnivorous Plants

I'd think that Nepenthes would work very well too... I had to take it out of my frog tanks, because the pitchers were packed with dead fruit flies.

I agree, put a pair of frogs and the problem will be gone in no time, except then you'll have to start culturing the fungus gnats

My first thought was the butterworts. But you all say sundews. I don't know. I've never had luck keeping sundews alive.
