From what I know, PDF's loose their poisons in captivity because they no longer acquire it from their natural prey, tropical ants. In the wilde, it is believed they acquire the poison from these ants. Wild caught individuals slowly loose their poisons, and captive born don't ever acquire them.

The staple diet of these in captivity are Fruit Flies. They lots of varieties, almost all of the flightless, for obvious reasons are the ones that are preferred. Some people also give termites, and ofcourse springtails are a staple. THey are plant safe, and help decompose dead plant matter in your tanks.
