Hi Ross! I'd hoped that you would see that my approach was one of humor, and also disbelief. Read the last sentence of my post! And the other scatological references, too.

OK, I guess I'll chime in as well....

Yes, I own an ORCHIDARIUM. I did not purchase it from the company as Becca did but it is their product none the less. So I guess that gives me the right to use the word, though after reading Ross' post, Orchidarium is not the word I would choose to use right now.....

As a business owner I think that the damage this man has done to the reputation of his company is immeasurable. Word of mouth advertising can be better than any you can pay for or it can kill your business! I can tell you that if I ever considered purchasing another Orchidarium it won't be from Orchidarium.com. In my opinion, his attitude toward this is petty and unprofessional.

If you buy another one, just don't get an orchidarium! I heard "tanks" are the latest craze!

I own an orchidarium...... I even built the damn thing myself (Single handed) It is much bigger than anything that they could ever supply..... and they could never ship it here as well. It is over 200 square metres and four metres high Sorry but i don't know the old fashioned imperial measurements.

One question:- How come America is the only country that you hear about, in regards to taking everyone to court for the slightest things?
America has a huge reputation for that

you own a tank, or a plantarium, or a terrarium or a wardian case

Well, I certainly didn't lose any sleep over this issue (Just got up).

Couple observations:

It's my understanding that trademarks are intended to keep other companies from selling a similar product with the same name. This issue has been debated many times in court and lots of money has changed hands. This isn't the case here. I have never produced a product for sale that I referred to by their registered name. Now I had one (a tank) made to my specs (that I feel is far superior to the other product). I find their products incredibly expensive and the nature of my article was to describe an alternative way of doing things. More often then not I refer to it as "tank" - rarely Wardian Case, but sometimes may have used this verboten term.

I went back and changed the term in the article they were concerned with. If I missed any, please point me to those. Thanks.

In the past, I have led others to the company site, intending they look the product over and perhaps make a purchase. I assure you, those days are over!

Purchasing these items from another vendor still supports this company. Resale still benefits the original producer. Just want to point that out.

I bear no anomosity towards this company because of their PM. I found it childish and I thank you all who have participated in this thread for the research you have done. It helps establish the value of this post. Thanks, Sue, for making it a sticky. I agree we want no actions to bear negatively on this great board.

I want to trademark 'Pleurodarium' - the tank I grow my Pleurothallids in... I can be fairly certain that at least I came up with that word first! All references found by google point back to me.

With that line of thinking, I should be calling my small EXO-TERRA (I LOVE my EXO-TERRA) a Masdevallium!
