Default My orchidariums today, 23 Dec 2008, picture heavy......

First I start with my "nano" orchidarium. It is a terracotta tube inside a aquarium. I need to install a small fan.

Ny second orchidarium is a small aquarium.

The third is my master Orchidarium! As you see it starts to get crowded!

And a crowded orchidarium meens that you can build a new one
So this is my new master orchidarium under construction with reference material!

Marvelous! I really like the design of the corner unit. Great job.

I don't do most Dendros or large, "floofy orchids". For me it's minis (like Angraecoides), Masdies, Paphs, and others that crept in somewhere along the line. See my orchid list for complete collection (usually not current.)

Hi Magnus

I like the new orchidarium. What are you using this time; glass or acrylic? Just curious as I am still sorting out what I will use.

Thanks!

I have no possibility to take pictures now and it can be hard to describe the details. Hope you understand....

But this is the basic:
I have to admit that I found the frame for my new orchidarium second hand. It is a custom built terrarie but the back and the bottom was in very bad shape. The frame is built in standard aluminium profiles, the doors and front is glass. The top is glass and an aluminium mesh that I plan to change for polycarbonate (lexan), the mesh is shading the planned light!

The back wall is a composite built from styrofoam and MDF (medium density fiberboard). It is sealed and strengtend with glasfiber and epoxi resin and finaly painted with a two component polyuretane lacquer for marine applications. The bottom is MDF, also sealed with glasfiber and epoxi, and finaly painted with a light grey two component boat lacquer made for use under water.

Picture will come next year!

/Magnus
