Technically, 1 lumen equals 1 foot candle at a distance of 1 foot from the light source (not square foot) It actually radiates in all directions (not blocked by a reflector.) Light does not fall off in a linear pattern however, so you can't simply divide by 2 for 24" - I don't recall the exact relationship. My original calcs were for "candle power", not "foot candles", sorry.
I don't do most Dendros or large, "floofy orchids". For me it's minis (like Angraecoides), Masdies, Paphs, and others that crept in somewhere along the line. See my orchid list for complete collection (usually not current.)

Did some of those cork pieces already have plants growing on them?.. that's what it looked like in the photos..
Could you post an update pic on the viv? I would love to see how it has grown in Also how is the Dracula lotax going- did it handle the heat of the viv?
