IYO is this OK or do I need to make the little guys more moveable like on bark pieces or the like.
I'm asking because of a desire of keeping the aesthetics nice; natural setting.

Be more specific. Like mounted to your yard stuff it do you mean using rocks?

I mount a lot of my orchids on things that I can then mount or i mount if I want to move them

Thanks,
I would like to mount them on wood branches imbedded in my background, so they would not be easily moved.

So whatever you wish to mount or attach to natural outdoor settings would be stationary? That says to me plants need to cope with all seasons and winters in Va. are harsh,no? Maybe I'm just missing your inquiry.

Do you mean inside a terrarium?

Yes, which is why I'm posting this in the "Terrarium Gardening" subforum.

People do it both ways. You can put them in small pots and nestle the pots in moss or in niches in the hardscape.

The way most people view Orchid Board the forum in which the thread exists isn't real easy to see. I just look at the thread title in a list.

No advice to give yet, but I will chip in that I am currently working to create a movable hard mount for a future mini in a terrarium.

My thinking is that I want the mount to be moveable in case an issue with the terrarium pops up or I find that the mini doesn't like the environment that much and needs to be relocated. I think it would be a lot easier to move a mount with a plant on it to a better environment than to safely remove (a now possibly struggling) plant and having to repot/remount.

I am going to start off with the mount on the ground of the terrarium and see how it does, then possibly move it to a hanging/vertical position inside (still have to finagle it) the same terrarium if it appears to like it.

I'm a newbie though so those with more experience might feel a lot more confident placing plants in long term, immovable mounts.

sign me up for that mistake too....

i would say it is up to your preference- i do not like pinterest (my wife says i am doing it wrong) but they do compile pics well..i would look at what some people have done and get creative.

they range from totally installed and never moving to totally clinical and everything in between.

one of my favorite setups was a living wall of sorts...it was a nicely sculpted mountain side with a cascade and there were some plastic pots molded into the wall to make little pools and in those pools they had various different net pots of mounted plants and it was awesome...the inner pots ( and a few mounted sticks) were totally moveable in and among the "pools"

get inspired and let you abilities be your limits (then learn more skills and crush those abilities with your new awesome abilities)
