My corningiana is, I think, proof of the durability of Phals. I bought the plant last summer. When it arrived I didn't have any potting material and it seemed happy enough in the sphagnum and plastic cup, so I broke every rule I profess and left it be. (I've grown enough in sphagnum that while I don't like it in these pots I can do fine.) The plant seemingly ignored my abuse, and has produced numerous new roots and a nice, big leaf, so I wasn't surprised when it spiked - though I now have two spikes which does surprise me a wee bit. Peter Lin describes the fragrance as "bubble gum", and while I find the fragrance to be sweet to me it's far more pleasant; two open flowers are producing enough fragrance to fill my plant room:
