Phal Equestris Keiki, removal or let it be? Male
Default Phal Equestris Keiki, removal or let it be?

Hello everyone,

I have had this Equestris for about a year now, it has a keiki that kept growing and is now putting out a bunch of roots with Temps rising...

Can I let it be and leave them together, or will natural selection crown the strongest one and the other one will slowly decline to its death?

Personally I'd like to leave them together, but don't want to jeopardize any of the 2 plants..

Also.. while I'm here... is the leaves color is indicating too much sun?? It gets morning direct sunlight and then indirect light for the rest of the day. My mounted Bellina few inches a way seems to love those conditions...

Thanks for your advice!

Yes too much light, and yes keep the plants together in my opinion.

Yes, a bit too much light. And I would definitely keep them together. Developing into a multi-crown plant is typical for equestris, and that's when you start to get spectacular show of flowers. I would only separate them if they virtually fall apart when repotting. Though multi-crown growth may be less common for some other Phals it is really never a problem to leave them together.

I'm trying to leave mine together also but I may have to separate them at some point. Well I did at the last re-pot as the smallest one had already detached itself. It still has 2 more but one of them is getting low on the mother plant so I will see about it next re-pot. And it doesn't seem to want to grow very fast either. The largest one seems better but they have never bloomed.
