Phalaenopsis Japonica
Default Phalaenopsis Japonica

One of the later reclassified phals, used to be sedirea, a native of Japan

Great flowers, didn't know that they reclassified the sedirea japonica into a phal

Thanks, folks.

Bud, they do have a citrus-like scent, but not as strong as a violacea or bellina for example.

Dillon123, yes, I think they did it in 2012 if I'm not mistaken.

This one is the standard-sized one. I just saw a video showing both standard and miniature, the miniature is very interesting too, small but same size flowers, Sedirea japonica v. minmaru.

Trouble is, the word spread, and it even changed on the databases of Kew a few weeks last year, then back to Sedirea. The RHS has it in Phalaenopsis and won't budge. TPL is Sedirea still too.

Methinks either an herbarium fight isn't finished or an article is late.

It is cumbersome but I see websites that refer to these as Phalenopsis (Sederia) japonicus. This orchid plant and the Vanda (Neofinetia) falcata are two plants I own. I use Nagoran (Sederia japonicus) and Furan (Neofinetia falcata) when referring to either plant. That really confuses Occidentals. <S>
