I don't believe all clones are fragrant, and some or most are only fragrant at certain times of day (morning). The Pink Butterfly clone is one of the fragrant ones, and last I recall, it's one of the easier clones to locate.

I don't know how to describe it. It's a very pleasant sweet floral fragrance, reminds me of other orchids/flowers. Definitely distinct from the fragrance of a lot of other phals that are citrusy or spicey.

Thanks!

I had read that it smells like rose as well as lavender, and was wondering what you guys would say.

I don't know but for some reason I feel like this has to be my next orchid...

Hmm.... Can have lots and lots of flowers all at once, all cascading out from the beautifully patterned mottled leaves... And they have a wonderful fragrance to boot?... Don't know why you would want that...

It generally smells the strongest in late morning and mine reminded me of roses. It once had six spikes with 108 flowers open at once, but unfortunately the pictures I took of it are not in a digital format (can you believe that people once used film?).

Paphluvr, alas, I too was once among those who used film. I even knew how to develop it at home. But, we must keep up with the times. Do you have a scanner? If not, you could even take a digital pic of the print. Then you can share it with me

I saw my first phal probably 20 years ago, but of course the hybrids in the supermarket have no smell. It always seemed so bizarre that such a beautiful flower would be without a fragrance...a mystery that was solved when i recently saw photos of p. schilleriana and learned that it smelled like...roses.

Roses, I thought. Of course it smells like roses. The ambassador blossom that awakened the masses to the world of orchids smells like the queen of the garden. Of course it does.

Now I just have to smell it for myself

Oh, I miss film... I have a stash-pile of 35mm film, so I can use my old Nikon... My grandfather used to have a darkroom in his basement, and after he died, we donated it to our local art gallery... So, I need to learn how to do it! They let (experienced) ppl come use it for the day, as well as classes on how to. I would like to set up a makeshift darkroom in my bathroom (have a friend who's gonna show me how to do it). I'm excited about that!

Can't wait to see pics of your schilleriana when you get one! With this thread, you've convinced me to get one too! I had no idea they were fragrant!

Paphluvr: I agree, I would love to see that picture you took! Find a scanner, or take a pic of it with a digital camera! Please!?

I had this same conversation with ronaldhanko regarding photos I had taken of native orchids, which seem to be one of his interests. I took a lot of my photos with a Mamiya TL camera in a 2¼" x 2¼" format using Kodak Ecktachrome balanced for 3200°K (slides). I haven't been able to find a home scanner that takes this format and to have them done commercially is cost prohibitive.
