Default Phal equestris aurea

Yay! I finally have one! It seems I have some bad luck when it comes to equestris aurea, since the first one died from stem rot and the second one is still alive but not doing so well. I decided to get an aurea from Asendorfer since I know they have good quality plants and ordered it about a month ago, but got an equestris alba instead since they had accidentally mixed the labels up when repotting, so I had to wait for their equestris to bloom so they could send me the correct one.

It arrived last Wednesday and some of the buds survived and have now opened and I'm sooo pleased. I hope this guy will do better than the other two and at least now I know I can't use the quality as an excuse should this equestris aurea die as well...

Here it is!

Great bloom(s). Color on the lip is nice. Hopefully you'll get this one to pull through!

Thanks guys!

Yeah, I really hope I'll be able to care properly for this little guy since I have quite a history with aureas (even though I've only been orchid crazy for about half a year)...

The other aurea I have has started to bloom too, despite it being in rather bad overall shape. It had close to 20 leaves when it came to me, but is down to 13 and will probably lose at least four more before it's done.

It went through some rough treatment when I got it since it came in hard packed sphagnum and lost at least half of its root system when I repotted it. After that I managed to kill some more roots by keeping it too dry, so I fear that all of this might have triggered a latent virus or made the plant receptive to some other funny disease...

Anyway, it still blooms prettily!
