My first Phalaenopsis Equestris Male
Default My first Phalaenopsis Equestris

Yesterday I visited the Orchidshow at Arenys de Mar (a ville close to Barcelona, on the coast). I had read so many wonderful thing of the Equestris that I bought one. It's my first Phal species (or primary hybrid?). I hope I can give her the cares she needs (more or less the same as the hybrids?).
Here is a picture of it. It's potted in a 3" pot. The biggest leaf is about 4" and the spike is about 8". She has many buds and the spike is branching as well. On a second spike, she's got a keiki. When I can I'll take some more pictures of her and post them.

Very nice! You'll love growling equestris, and soon will be looking for varieties of this species. I'd love to see the flowers on yours when they open.

Nice! Yes, equestris is a species, with a fair amount of varieties I believe. I haven't grown them, but I would imagine care is similar/same to most hybrids - I'm sure others can advise you definitively on that.

Phal equestris is one of the easier Phal species to grow. I don't think you need to worry about this one as much as some of the other Phal species with thinner and softer leaves such as Phal bellina or Phal javanica.

Buds are growing steadily. I can't wait to see the first blooms. Will they be fragrant?
Btw, it doesn't have 1 keiki, she's got 2 of them (a basal keiki and the one on the old spike).

Phal equestris is such a nice little plant, you're going to love the blooms! This species is stupidly easy to grow, and keikis abundantly, as you have discovered. It also blooms somewhat sequentially, so don't cut the spike after the blooms are gone, the spike will keep elongating for quite some time. And no, it's not fragrant. Just a minor correction, equestris should be spelled with a lowercase 'e', as it is a species.

My first Phalaenopsis Equestris Male
Default First bloom

As every morning when I get up, the first thing I did (after showering and getting dressed) was checking on my equestris. The first bloom had opened over the night! I'm so excited about it. Dying to see the full spike in bloom. Here's a picture. It's not quite sharp, but it was a bit windy outside where I took the picture. I'll post better pictures another day, when there are more blooms open.
