Talking Phal. equestris with an...orange...lip?

Or maybe not...

It was supposed to have one, but maybe I got the wrong plant or it could be a light issue, that's not impossible after all.

Anyway, this little guy opened its first bloom tonight and it is such a small little thing! It only measures about 2cm across (0.8") which this equestris newbie feels is rather small, but I don't know really, what do you experts say?

Despite the lack of an orange lip, I think it's a darling and I love it's colouration.

Here it is! Enjoy!

This pic is taken a wee bit closer than the previous one and since I couldn't decide which of the pics I liked the best, I'm uploading both.

This last picture is a comparison shoot between my little one and my other equestris that's blooming at the moment (which happens to be one with rather large flowers to boot).

It could be a light issue (and also I'm not sure how accurately your camera shows the color) but normally on this type the lip should be anywhere from a very light peach color, up to a medium red-orange. If it's freshly opened you may have to wait a bit, sometimes it takes a few days for the color to set.

I would say that my camera shows the colour pretty accurately, although the colour is even more intensely cerise/dark pink IRL as compared to my computer screen.

I'll wait for a couple of days and see what it'll look like then, but I doubt it'll get a more orange coloured lip.

I really love this tiny-whiny flower anyway because of the intensity of the colour as well as its diminutive size.

Mine is the same colour. I don't think the lip will gat orange. All equestris I've seen are like these. Anyway, whether it's 'orange' or 'orange lip', to say the color is orange is an exageration. Usually it just means pink with a hint of orange in it. I'm not positive you have an 'orange lip'. But I really like it, the white margin on the petals is very well defined. My standard equestris have nearly solid pink petals.

Yep, "orange" in the Phal world seems to mean peach coloured or faded pink.

To be honest I think there has been a mislabeling somewhere, but I like it too (and this means I've gotten yet another cute equestris and must get a real Apari orange which I first thought this might be, but obviously is not).

I have a standard equestris as well and, as you say Camille, it doesn't have this white margin as this guy do and it is a brighter pink too while this guy is a shade darker, but the biggest difference between this guy and my standard equestris is the shape and size of the flowers where this guy stretches its sepals much more backwards as well as having a bit more round petals and sepals. The differences are small, but important since they give the flowers a completely different feel to them. Or I'm just making up bad excuses to authorize getting more equestris...

Another possibility would be if it's grown from seed then individuals might vary. It does look to me like the orange might be there, just hidden by the dark pink!

I'd wait the next set of blooms in some months or a year to have a serious opinion. First blooms can be "unfinished".

And it's cute nonetheless

It's the second time it blooms (although I didn't have it the first time) and a friend of mine purchased one of these from the same vendor and has had the same result; no orange.

But as I said, I like it anyway, orange lip or no orange lip. Here's a picture of it taken today:

I never trusted the description "orange", somehow that seemed a bit far fetched to me. The price of those plants also made me hesitate to take the risk. Seeing your plant though, makes me think it may be time to start saving up for the next orchid show. This is WAY nicer!
