phalaenopsis bloom and blast!-2011-07-29-17-01-31-jpg

Hi Everyone,
So yesterday I was thinking to myself 'my phals are doing great, they have new leaves and the roots are just constantly growing. They're stil in flower and I even have some new buds forming on the end of the spike.' Then today to my horror I noticed that actually all of the old blooms are in fact dying. I am so sad. What did I do wrong or is this natural for a phal to drop the old blooms to accommodate the new ones? Anyway at least it's got a new leaf right?

how old were the blooms?
some do bloom sequentially - older blooms drop, new buds are developing, opening
it does seem a bit unusual that all the old blooms would suddenly wilt at the same time - perhaps there was a draft, or change in conditions ?

your plant looks happy - I can see there is new root growth in the pot, and it's growing foliage

Hi WhiteRabbit. The blooms were about 2/3 months old. I changed fertiliser the other day I don't know if that had anything to do with it but since then it is rapidly producing buds. It looks very healthy so I can't understand it but hopefully the new ones will last for a while. At least there is a new leaf coming as well so hopefully I should see a new spike soon too.

after 2-3 months, the blooms likely were just done - probably not anything you did

Oh well that's o.k then. I hope the new ones last a bit longer. There should be at least eight new buds altogether. Fingers crossed.
