How do you stake the Schilleriana Flowers so that the stems dont snap?

i have a specimen size one coming in the mail! the grower said it has a 17+ inch leaf span. and it should set multiple spikes in the blooming season. Yours are stunning and breathtaking and all that good stuff!!

It is unlikely the Schill's spikes will snap. Have you ever tried ripping a spike before? They're tough as nails. If you want to stake them, I suggest buying some bamboo reeds and using those, being careful not to stick any roots.

In my opinion, take it or leave it, schill looks amazing without a stake or if one is used, a short one to keep them tidy. Put it on a high shelf or sill and let those things cascade down...the effect is impressive and if your is fragrant, the flowers will be in perfect sniffing position. Tis is what I do with mine and it is wonderful to see.

Hope this isn't to far off topic, if it is hopefully one of the moderators will move it.

Question is: Are any of your schilleriana spiking yet? My oldest one has one nice spike with two branches but it's going to be at least December before it really blooms.

Kid, you still have a dz. schilleriana? That patio is truly a sight to behold!

Holy Cow! That's astounding. I just picked up one of these (though rather beat up) from an auction last month. Happy to report that despite the rough shape, it started spiking at the beginning of this month. Can't wait to see what she does.

Great growing and thanks for sharing.

I love Phals with mottled leaves! Your Schillies are beautiful! They certainly earned those awards! Congrats!

I have a stuartiana and a seedling philippinensis, but no Schillie yet. The stuartiana might have bloomed this year if it hadn't burnt in the spring sun. It's on the mend, but now it will be years before I see it flower! Phals grow so slow in my cool conditions. I'm thinking of trying Camille's idea of growing them on a heat mat.
