I'm moving away from the hybrids with the flower shapes you mostly get in supermarkets... but towards the flower shapes that Ben shows us... which I have seen in both hybrids and species.

I think the problem is that many Phals in supermarkets all have the same rough flower shape and texture (with a few exceptions) and then just have different colours and sizes. Don't me wrong... I love my supermarket hybrids and I'm really excited that lots of them are spiking just now... but I starting to get way more interested in both the species and in the different hybrids like the ones Ben shows us.

Nice one... but var. alba doesn't exist for cornu-cervi... you should call it cornu-cervi var. flava

I've seen it listed on websites as both flava and alba. Mine came labeled as alba, and the pictures in OrchidWiz of the yellow ones all say var alba. If you really want to get technical all of the vars are now lumped into just cornu-cervi. I did kind of wonder about the name as one usually associates alba with a white flower and flava with a yellow flower.

This form is classified by Eric Christenson in his book Phalaenopsis a Monograph as flava. The term "alba" is very commonly used incorrectly for a number of species. Mine came labeled as alba also, but I changed the tag when I did further research. I consider Christenson a taxonomic expert for Phal species.

Well it's clearly a flava ! Alba means white, while flava means yellow... if you consider that your cornu-cervi is white, ok then you can name it alba... but as far as I can see, yours is yellow !
