thanks al... i started to love phal species since i can't flower the hybrids... so i am going to collect them! i even tell the seller that i'll give my species collection to him if i die first, for him to plant in the jungle, and get scolded instead coz i'm 30 and he's about twice my age... anyway, species orchids, here i come!!!

Yay! I'm in the novice grower section still. I'm still learning which genera I like to grow and which I like and grow well. LOL.

So far, Dendrobiums and Encyclias have been my well growers, however with so many species and hybrids to choose from I'm going to try lots of different orchid species and hybrids before I settle.

Ah! And so it begins.....the treacherous journey into Phal. species land. Once you enter there's no going back! I have a C-1 that is growing nicely. Someday when it's grown up I hope it gives me one or two red petals with the rest white.

I'm trying hard to whittle my collection down to a more manageable size too. Most any Phal does well for me as do slippers. Catts I do OK with but they aren't my faves. I have a soft spot for certain Dens, mostly species also. Right now it's taking a whole day out of my weekend to get everything watered properly and trays cleaned. Time to list some more chids for sale!

Natasha, here's a link to a thread on C-1s. I think they are the coolest.

thanks for the link terri... mine is this type, hopefully when it grow up! i bought a seeding for rm50 (about usd14?) and that's expensive for a seedling. the seller told me its a speciosa, but i tell him i want a tetraspis just like the one i saw and ask him earlier. from his flower and his description, it sounded like a tetraspis (that i know of) but he still say a speciosa... i'd be studying the links... for quite some time i think!

Natasha, it seems there is some controversy over what this one should actually be named. I've seen it listed as Phal. tetraspis var speciosa C-1, Phal. speciosa C-1, and Phal. tetraspis C-1. Peter Linn from Big Leaf orchids believes it is a distinct species from tetraspis, and he's calling it speciosa. I guess we'll have to leave it to the experts to figure out. I suppose one could aways ask for the cute white Phal. with one or two red petals or sepals. Everyone will know what you're talking about even if we aren't sure what to call it.

Then there are those that think C#1 is actually a hybrid between speciosa/tetraspis and corningiana . At this point, I don't care what it is other than really cool . Mine is cranking up right now-and wonderfully fragrant
