Default Phal. parishii - spike, root or leaves??

I haven't had this plant long, so I'm still learning about it. I first thought this was a root, but now I don't think it is. Is it a spike? Or is it new leaves?

All opinions very gratefully received!!

Thanks in advance!

I'm certain it's not a leaf. And it's obvious it's not a root. It's gotta be a spike. That would explain the nodes forming.

Hell, I'll just eat my words if I'm wrong on this...

I'm 100% certain it's a spike. How about that.

Looks like a spike to me. The end looks ragged in the picture, a root would be smoother.

I'm going to trust you all - you've all had far more experience than me!
I just wasn't expecting it!

Very exciting - in fact it's the only thing in spike at the moment, so doubly exciting!!

Thanks everyone!
