Phalaenopsis hieroglyphica, or is it?
Default Phalaenopsis hieroglyphica, or is it?

I purchased this Phalaenopsis hieroglyphica two years ago as hieroglyphica and it bloomed for the first time early this year and again a couple weeks ago. It has a faint musky rosy scent; it is not "too sweet".

Included is the first bloom which is asymmetric and the second bloom that is symmetric but has muddier glyphs than the first bloom. Does this appear to be a hieroglyphica or could it have been a victim of mislabeling?

Dorsal sepal and the petals are 3cm, lateral sepals are ~3.5cm long. The width of each of the petals/sepals is about ~1.5-1.8 cm.

Anyone have a spare sequencer?

the 4th does not show up as a thumbnail and keeps displaying upsidedown, idk how to fix that.

I'm not an expert but I think that's a hybrid. Where did you buy it? Here is the species on IOSPE.

The lip is diagnostic among phalaenopsis species, and that matches the hieroglyphica structure quite well, in my opinion.

There are a lot of different colors and patterns in that species, so don't rule that out quite yet.

So there is hope lol

What are other ways I could go about confirming it species status?

I can attempt to take pics with better resolution

hmmm, not sure, but i would wait to hear from the seller. there isn’t a way that i am aware of other than knowing the plants origin. we got a heiro this summer and the flowers are quite large as well so that doesn’t rule it out. and if it was a sibling cross or seed grown then of course there could be variation. best of luck with the sleuthing! looks like nice dense markings on it...

The label seems correct to me.

Flower shape, size, colouration and patterns fit the description. The only thing is that "faint musky rosy scent" doesn't add up, they're supposed to have a wonderful, strong, citrusy smell. Check for COVID

In case you're thinking it could have been the victim of a mislabeling with Phal lueddemanniana, both luedde and hiero grow all over the Philippines in the same areas and are currently thought to be a single species with different forms.
However, they've been crossed many times in nature and in culture, so it's impossible to say who's who.

I have a heiroglyphica that bloomed recently, and I would describe the scent of mine as floral, reminded me of lilies.
