That long you think? I know most Phals take about 3 months from spike nubbin to open bloom, but seeing as this spike grew about 8in in 4 weeks, I was guessing shorter. Though it probably depends on the final length of the spike.

I try not to expect anything soon... I get teased by so many plants, including my Phals. Of course, when you want it to take longer, it may perversely decide to be fast...

I did promise pictures and here they are.

The plant is growing in a three inch pot in sphagnum and the largest leaf is eight inches in length. I have all my plants in my apartment so normal growing conditions. I have been led to believe that it's rather small for a blooming gigantea.

The color is not quite right. The background color should be a greenish white. So the last photo is closer in color.

Very nice blooms, congrats!! I've seen photos of plants blooming at that size so it certainly is possible.

I don't think I'll be seeing any blooms this year. Sadly the plant sitter accidentally snapped the spike while watering. I don't blame her at all, I came close to breaking it myself multiple times. The plant has to be carefully moved from the heavy clay cache pot to a bucket of water while making sure the leaves hang over the side of the table. It's really, really easy to accidently bash that long hanging spike into the table while doing that.

It's not fully broken (about 3/4 of the way through) so I taped it back into a straight position. The tip is not dead but unfortunately it's not growing any more....

What a bummer.
I enjoyed the pictures from the previous flowers. I think I need a gigantea too now

agreed!! check out asendorfer...we were directed there when thinking about a gigantea, and we have been super happy with the product. beware, their cultivar is expensive, but again, worth it imho...

ooooohhhh man...edit to add that i just went back to asendorfer online and they have a gigantea alba selfing available...a bit pricey at 100 but that is tempting
