Phalaenopsis Schilleriana new leaf question Male
Default Phalaenopsis Schilleriana new leaf question

Hey everyone,
I've got a phal schilleriana growing a new leaf (yay!) But it's significantly more red than all the other leaves. I'm new to this species, so I'm wondering Is this normal? Will it eventually turn green like the other leaves? Its possible I'm giving it higher light than the previous owner. Ultimately I'm wondering if its a problem or if its all good.

Red is good, if you don't burn it.
Maybe back off a little on the light. That leave is young, so maybe more sensitive. By other hand, if it's a new plant, carefull with light levels as you don't know the previous conditions.

The leaf started developing in my care. I've had the plant for somewhere around 3 months. But yes, I went ahead and moved the plant further back on the bench, away from my t5 lights. I guess I just assumed that because my other phals grow there, it would be fine

Looks good. Bought my schilleriana the last show I attended way back in early 2019. Was a young plant with 3 leaves and 1 blooming spike. Didn't bloom again until now and so fragrant. However, I placed it at edge of t5 lights and it did get that red tint to leaf. I'm leaving it there. Have seen many fotos of plants tilted in their pots or baskets since it seems natural for them to grow that way. Keeps crown rot at bay so that is also how I put mine-vanda basket with s/m and some bark. Slow grower but I'm not going anywhere.

I've got a number of phals, that do that, too. It only happens on the ones with red genes in them. Usually have pink, red, or purple blooms.

I have a philippensis which is white, the back of the leaves show the red tint as does the schilleriana. I'm only a window sill grower but it has flowered 3 times. I love the leaves and I grow it and my schilleriana etc in vanda baskets too.
I'm now waiting for a lindenii to spike, hope it's soon.
