Default catasetum winter rest started/new growth already here?

My catasetum frilly doris has started dropping its leaves for winter rest. But it has this very small .5 inch maybe growth coming off the side already...what do I do? If I allow it to go into winter rest fully will it kill that baby phulb that is growing? Or will it send its energy into growing that?

Kindra, as I do understand winter rest, your Catasetum pbulbs are filled after growth season with nutrition and water. New growth starts to grow during the winter rest, and is fed from the pbulbs by stored water and food. There is no watering or fertilizing till the time new growth has roots at least some 3-5 inches. At that time you can re-pot and start again regular regime, watering and fertilizing. I assume the new growth will take some time to grow the roots that long, so I am leaving mine like it is, no water, no fertilizer, nothing, and will see how the growths will do. Watering during this time may cause rot!

I knew it would cause rot. I was just so confused it has been growing a baby now for a while and it has now decided it is time for winter rest.

I had that happen with my cyncnodes and didn't fertilize or water. As a result, wrinkled leaves and no blooms. Sigh. That wasn't the answer. I am not sure how you are growing them so that would affect their treatment. If the new growth continues, perhaps growing under a light and keeping it warm, watered and fertilized would work. After all, in warm places, these do have a short rest.
Hopefully, someone has a better answer.
If you haven't already read it, AOS site has a seven-part article on growing these. It is really great.

Plants do what they want to do...never a dull moment.
I agree, wait until the new roots get going.
I have had orchids that are said to be very strict with resting that skip the rest. Last year, some of the neos put out entire new growths during the winter. A couple of the species cattleyas are doing it this year despite their strict growing schedules (supposedly).

I think those bulbs are too wrinkly - you need to water them to plump them up. Even at late stage dormancy, mine were plump.

Edit....no, I think I looked at the original ( mother ) one that the plumpy one grew from ! I think you are OK.

Yeah the larger one is the new guy the shorter super wrinkly one is the old mother bulb. Lol. It is till being watered every 2 days or so until that last leaf falls. Then no more water. Stopped fert. 2 weeks ago.
