How do you do this in below freezing weather? I want to take a few orchids to the OS meeting tonight.

We get coolers and place them in the cooler which is insulated so the trip from car to building doesn't freeze them. I save pot trays (bedding plant trays in the spring). These provide holes for your orchid pots to sit in and keep the plants from sliding around in the cooler or bumping into each other.

If they are quite large, we buy a big Rubbermaid tub or similar with a lid and use that. Maybe wrapping a blanket around it it's really cold. But we can usually pull up to the door and get them into the building in seconds.

Some people here use cardboard boxes and cover them with dry cleaner plastic bags = good for tall plants.

Sometimes I travel with orchids in winter (like to take some to an orchidsitter while I'm on vacation) I put them in a cardboard box that I lined with bubblewrap

1) Preheat you car.

2) Totally enclose the plants, even if it's only a plastic bag.

3) Run as fast as you can between house & car, car & meeting place.

They will not be harmed in the brief spans between heated spaces unless you dawdle.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for your suggestions. I've got so many things in bloom, it was hard to decide which method I was going to use! I opted for the cooler as I felt it was just too much trouble to take some of my larger one's in.

You guys are the best!!!!
